CallCentric Reviews

CallCentric is an internet phone service provider that uses either your computer or a telephone adapter to place calls via the internet. CallCentric allows for free calls to other CallCentric customers and low-rate calls to traditional phones. CallCentric offers VoIP-based broadband phone services for both residential and business users. Their services include all of the essential features, free local numbers, and much more.

Consider the IP Freedom phone service. As long as you are calling another CallCentric customer, with the proper installed software (or an IP-adapted phone), the call is absolutely 100% free. The only downside is that you can’t call anyone on a landline.

What does CallCentric offer?

CallCentric has three different paid calling plans available. The first, Pay Per Call, is an extension of the IP Freedom calling plan. You simply credit a small amount to your account and you can call anywhere in world, at low VoIP rates. That’s it. You only pay for what you use. Calls within the CallCentric network are still free. The second and third plans are the North America Unlimited Plan and the World Select Plan. Both are for a low monthly fee and both offer unlimited calls: North America Unlimited to North America and World Select to 35 countries around the globe. All CallCentric’s plans (even IP Freedom) have wonderful features included, like voicemail, browser management, and more.

I wanted to totally rid our lives of att: directv, att landline, cell phone service. My Son is an IT professional and he suggested signing up with CallCentric. I feel I'm medium advanced when it comes to technology. It was not a simple procedure to get a VoIP adapter, sign up for the service, and then all is going to work properly. Insure when you start the process, "don't disconnect" your present land-line service until all is completely done. With CallCentric you can "PORT" (keep your existing phone number) which I did. But it takes many days for the number to port. I disconnected my att service the day I signed up with CallCentric and sent the port request. Big Mistake! I was without land-line telephone service for I think 2 weeks. One of the items that's very confusing with CallCentric is that you have to purchase 2 services: You must pay for one service to receive inbound calls, and purchase another service to place calls. Don't know why CallCentric would require this, but that's the way it is. I purchased a Grandstream GS-HT802 telephone adapter off Amazon for $40.00. I'm not advocating this particular adapter, but it's working well for us. It's simple to hook everything up. You run a wire from the telephone adapter to your internet router, plug in your present phone to the adapter, plug the adapter into an electrical outlet, and you're good to go. I have 3 cordless telephones. I plugged one of the phones into the adapter and placed the other 2 phones in convenient locations. Once the number ported and I figured out that I had to purchase 2 services: Inbound and outbound, everything is working perfectly! I purchased the DID - Personal Unlimited option for $6.00 per month for inbound calls, and the North America 500 for $7.00 per month for outbound calls. So around $13,00 monthly. Believe I was paying att $45.00 per month for land-line service. With CallCentric you get a bunch of free stuff: anonymous call blocking; voice mail; call treatments. Remember: When you place any call you must press the number 1 first, along with the other 7 digits. The service does not recognize 7 number dialing. Overall, I'm very pleased with CallCentric and highly recommend the service.

Price, call options, ease of installation.
Confusing to have to buy 2 services: Inbound and outbound.

I've been using Callcentric for about 6 or 7 years. I have absolutely no issues with the company and their features are great and easily programable from their website. The only thing I wish they had is their own app. I have to use 3rd party software in my Android phone and I find it not reliable. I now have a Xiomi Redmi 8 and I manage to program the VOIP of the phone app. But, sometime sI check and I have to re-set it because it says " not connected" The rest, it's great!

Very easy to configure and change forwarding numbers. through their website. Rings in multiple phones even if they are in different parts of the world.
No proprietary App

Callcentric is still a decent plan, but pricing is substantially higher than before.

I have had call centric for about 5 years now, they have had a few rough patches as well as some individuals taking advantage of their programs. The free phone number program is gone. Now there is a $1 per month DID charge but this is specifically restricted for limited residential use. If your use is for a home office or business purpose you have to go to a office unlimited plan for $8.95 per month and then add an outbound calling plan, i use the 120 min for $1.95 charge which includes the taxes related to 911 service. Overall I now pay $10.90 per month which is still less expensive than the other SIP plan providers. I like most of the features, but a little dejected that if you have voicemail activated then every call will end up routing to voicemail. For one of the numbers I had calls could not go to a voicemail. The only way to do that was to cancel the line and order a new account. Now that free phone number has stopped I have cancelled all the lines on that account and just have a internet phone number only with the voice mail. Once I get a routing program set to filter out calls not intended for the non vm company to the other account's internet number. For a small business you don't need anything really, but a few IP phones and order business unlimited DID if you need more than one channel, but still under the same number this can be ordered through the plan. You start with 3 trunk channels, so you may need to request more if you have 3 extensions and occasionally have folks holding for someone. channels include every inbound and outbound call or transfer call needed at any given time. So consider 6 to 9 a good starting point. The system also allows you to configure an auto attendant with call queueing for a team. When you want to move up you would need to configure a IP PBX (often setup on a home server) this is not for the light of heart and normally requires a pro to get everything set properly. But, a pro and IP PBX can leverage things like trunks in use BLF led's and reporting of calls received and average calls hold time in queue. It requires a skilled IP PBX programer to properly implement these but when they are done right they are wonderful.

After having constant trouble with my MagicJack phone and getting limited customer support to make it better I started a search to find a replacement. My primary concern was the cost, I wanted something super cheap because we don't use the home phone very much. I also wanted something that would allow me to block unwanted spam and telemarketing calls that MagicJack allowed (I sometimes suspect MJ sold my number because of the large number of unwanted calls I received). I purchased a used OBI-100 on Ebay to use as the adapter. It was super easy to configure and CallCentric was great about porting my number to them at no cost. Along the way I had several questions about the porting process and after that how to correctly configure my account to block the unwanted calls and allow my phone contacts to get directly through. Each time I contacted customer support (email only through their website) they were prompt, thorough and courteous with their reply. The amount of features offered and the ability to configure your account to accommodate your calling schedule is unbelievable. I was so impressed that I even wrote to customer service praising them with their efforts. I've often written reviews in the past of products or services that I was unhappy with but never one from a company that I would like to see succeed like CallCentric. If you're thinking about trying an internet phone company this is your best and least expensive alternative.

For low or moderate call usage CallCentric is an unparalleled highly cost-effective provider. Their customer service is by message exchanges within the account interface and I found the text-based approach provided access to consistently high expertise and relatively fast responses. The online instructions and documentation are thorough and professional. For DIY configuration of VoIP their account interface provided everything I needed to know. I like the fact that the user can provide their own compatible interface hardware to suit their needs. The process of line porting was well organized and progressed smoothly. Features are wonderful, especially for the low price. I do wish there was a more effective way to exclude the high volume of spam calls that are now typical, however the CallCentric "call treatment" filters and telemarketer block feature do divert a substantial proportion of unwanted call attempts. The sound quality has been very good. Reliability has been good, but I have experienced one dropped call in 2 months while no ISP service disruption at my location was indicated, so could not provide the top 5* rating for reliability.

The CallCentric service paradigm is well suited for those who like to configure and control their own VoIP hardware and account. Price point can be fine-tuned to exactly the services required. I cannot imagine a more flexible value proposition for VoIP than the service model that CallCentric provides.
A higher volume of unwanted spam call attempts has been experienced than at the same number which was ported from analog land-line service. Unwanted call rejection permits charges for incoming calls even when they fail to pass through the telemarketer block and even for rapid repeat calls. More severe blocking is available but risks rejecting legitimate calls. New spam numbers keep appearing faster than you can add offenders to the explicit blocking call treatments.

If you're not porting a number (and will therefore not have contact with their customer service), this is a pretty good service. However, the *instant* you need to open a trouble ticket, your life will be hell. Better yet -- the first time you need to open a ticket, just cancel your account.

Cheap, good sound quality, good features
horrible, horrendous, obnoxious customer service. Their LNP process is terrible, their customer service rude, arrogant, and have a "your time is our time" philosophy

Been using Callcentric for 3 years now and with the exception of a couple of bumps in the road, the service has been fantastic. Use them at office (PBX) and home (Obi Adaptor). Their service is always evolving and I frequently get e-mails about new features being added. With their Pay-Per Use plans my home service is less than $9 per month!
Simply excellent, give them a try!

Affordable service, crisp calls, tons of features with more added several times a year, excellent support

I have 3 accounts. They completely LOST 2 numbers I ported in to them. The other sometimes answers "Number not in Service". They are a total nightmare. No phone support, only "Trouble Tickets" that they respond to when the get around to it, even emergency problem as mentioned. 6 hour response normally. To make things worse, they simply claim it is my equipment that is the problem when all 3 accounts in 3 different locations all go down at the same time....YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! They need to be shut down since it seems like the management itself could care less since I have been patiently hoping they would change, but since a year of issues, they have not.

Great when it works
Poor dependability, Irresponsible management, Arrogant customer support and slow responsiveness.

Was tired of being taken advantage by Vonage, so at the recommendation of my neighbor I gave Callcentric a try. Am a bit of a noob and I wanted to try things out before "jumping into the water"; so I signed up for one of their Free DIDs.
Admittedly, I was a bit overwhelmed at first as I had never configured an ATA or an IP Phone before. No worries though, as after reviewing their config guides and working with their support team (at 10 PM on a Sunday night!); I was able to get my Obi 202 up and running in no time.
Once up and running, signed up for their North America 500 plan for outbound and their Pay Per Minute service for inbound. Took about 10 days to port my number to Callcentric..
My wife has said the Callcentric line sounds clearer than our Vonage service and my monthly bills are less than what Vonage was charging us in fees alone!
Never looking back, definitely recommended

Stay away from Callcentric!!!
I first used Callcentric five years ago for my main business DID. After about a 10 months with them, I ported the number to another provider because I noticed that a small percentage of calls to our DID would fail. I did some testing and found that instead of going to voicemail or hearing a busy tone, callers would get the message "this number is not in service". For a business, that is completely unacceptable. The damage to my business well exceeded the cost of VOIP service.
Nevertheless, I liked the website and thought they may be a good option for a residential DID. Boy, was I wrong!
I switched my parents over to them earlier this year because I figured Callcentric would be able to handle the low volume of calls on a residential number. If a call here and there didn't go through, it wouldn't be a big deal. Callers could just try calling right back and would probably get through.
I can't say how unhappy my parents were with the service they got from Callcentric.
Starting in September, there was a DOS attack that caused major problems with their service. You could not place calls with them and inbound calls did not get completed. This issue dragged on for over a month. They kept coming up with a "solution" that would last for a day or so only to have the exact same problems happening again. At first, I had some pity on them, but after time kept dragging on, it seemed like they were completely unprepared for this and were just grasping at straws for a solution.
During Hurricane Sandy, it became extremely clear that their network was very poorly planned. They have all their servers in one building in downtown New York and do not have any generator backups! As far as I could tell, they only have short term battery backups that will only last for a power outage of an hour or so. They were down for days and blamed the weather, but it was really because they had such poor planning and network design. Other providers based in NYC didn't have any downtime. What's going to happen the next time they lose power?
A well designed VOIP network should have uptime that is not dependent on the local power grid. Servers should be in at least two different locations, separately by hundreds or thousands of miles. Callcentric has neither of these things.
Bottom line, avoid them like the plague. They have a nice website and good prices, but you can't trust these guys to handle your phone service. There are several other providers that can take their place.
Don't be fooled by positive reviews.

Bad network, very susceptible to problems.
